The Raptures are mechanical enemies that are currently the dominant species of the earth's surface and the main antagonists of Goddess of Victory: Nikke.

Physiology and behavior[]

Raptures exist in all shapes and sizes; in the form of small and medium robots, flying drones, walking machines, animal-like mechs and a lot of other different shapes. Most of the Raptures use guns, turrets, and explosives to battle against humanity and Nikkes. They generally attack humans and Nikkes on sight, although some only respond to Nikkes such as the likes of Material H.

Initially, Raptures are purely mechanical in nature, however, as time passes by, they evolve into consuming and assimilating organic matter into their body. This physiology has existed since the first generation of Raptures. According to the Central Archives Center, the Rapture's weaponry is said to be far more technologically-advanced than anything humanity has possessed in offensive, defensive and as well as mobile capabilities, which explains why even the most powerful military prowess in the world is incapable of stopping their invasion.

Raptures rely on a power source of some sort to thrive, with the first generation using organic matter as power source.[1] Unfortunately, some such as those who live in the depths of the ocean became dormant due to humanity fleeing into the Ark and the waters becoming scarce for a power source.[2]

Raptures are notorious for a phenomenon otherwise known as "Corruption." By injecting a Corruption code into a Nikke usually through a tentacle-like appendage, infected individual becomes a mindless puppet hellbent in fighting against humanity. While originally, Corruption can only cause paralysis, various refinement within its code by the help of a specific traitor led to the evolution of the Raptures' infamous ability we now know today.[3] Notable symptoms of a corrupted Nikke feature red eyes, the tendency to utter repetitive words with disturbing vocal cords and the increasing risk of becoming an Irregular.[4][5] Or in the worse-case scenario, transform into personal agents to serve the Rapture Queen. And such, these corrupted Nikkes would soon be considered to be "traitors."[6]

A Rapture can only be destroyed by damaging its core which renders it immobilized, since only destroying its parts is proven ineffective. During the First Rapture Invasion, they are so abundant on the planet that they are practically infinite in numbers that encounter occurs within an hour. However after Cinderella severed the ties between the Space Station and the Lift, the readout screen that Abe invented over a century ago usually would tally it to infinity now shows a string of numbers, as well as their numbers slowly dwindled to the point where encounters will take 75 minutes to occur.[7][8]

History[]

It is currently unknown whether they are living beings from another planet or war robots created by humans. They have been on the planet for at least over 100 years and still occupy the surface to the present day. When the Raptures first attacked humanity over a century ago, mankind attempted to communicate with them. However, reasoning with such mechanical beings proved fruitless. There wasn't much of a choice left other than to fight and establish the United Forces of Humanity to solve the crisis.[9] Humanity eventually suffered a catastrophic defeat when one of the second generation Grimms Model code-named "Cinderella" was corrupted and became the first known Heretic. As such, humanity was forced to retreat into the Ark.

In the early days of the invasion, the Raptures are simply referred to as "aliens" by humans, and has been sometimes the subject of UFO sightings.[10] Sometimes, people are oblivious to the threat they pose that outright thinking they can simply use improvised arms to deal with them.[11] There are also conspiracy theories believing that the Raptures are not aliens, but 'failed creations' of the Big Three.[12]

After the Ark was established at some point, humanity firmly believed that they were safe from Raptures after sheltering themselves in an underground haven. However, this was far from the truth, the Raptures are actually aware of the Ark's whereabouts. It was revealed that Chatterbox, a unique Tyrant-class Rapture communicated with Enikk, the AI overseer of the Ark to create a deal: Enikk will provide Nikkes implanted with Chatterbox's corruption codes in exchange for the Raptures not attacking the Ark.[13]

After the successful mission to apprehend Modernia and the supposed death of Chatterbox, the Ark soon became a subject to the Raptures' invasion, as they somehow managed to breach their way inside the underground metropolis despite the deal with Enikk. It was later revealed that the perpetrator is none other than the cunning Exotic squad.[14] The situation soon was exacerbated as Yuni decided to capture a Rapture to feign a breach into the evacuation shelters, leading to the evacuees to flee in panic, becoming a prime target for the mechanical beings.[15] The resulting panic caused a mass upheaval within the Ark's streets, with numerous Nikkes and civilians being killed by the Raptures.[16] To add salt to the wound, Nihilister who planned to fake her death after being defeated by Dorothy was dragged into the M.M.R. Core with the intent to resurrect Indivilia by offering her weaponry to Material H. Enikk considers the presence of more than two Heretics as the "worst case scenario," which eventually may result in the Ark accumulating damage beyond repair.[17]

Rapture Queen[]

The leader and matriarch of the Raptures who work from the shadows. The Heretics directly answer to her. It has been implied that a Rapture Queen can be succeeded and replaced by another Queen.

Heretics[]

Nikkes that are corrupted by the Raptures are hybridized with their technology, allowing them to harness Rapture weaponry. Despite the corruption, they are still considered as Nikkes. Each Heretic have their own Rapture form, usually in the form of a robotic animal.

Rapture Types[]

Raptures are classified into 5 different classes: Husk, Servant, Master, Lord, and Tyrant. Master-class raptures can then be specified into 2 grades: Exceed and Master.

Lord and Tyrant Raptures have an animated introduction before they are fought. Some Lord and all Tyrant Raptures have parts that can be destroyed by the Nikkes upon targeting. These parts often serve as weapons or defensive barriers.

Both classes also have attacks that can be interrupted. Yellow circles will appear arbitrarily at their parts known as an Interruption Part. In Co-Op Battle as of the BULLET X CHAINSAW event, these Raptures are introduced with gray interruption parts which can automatically fail their QTE, known as Counter Circle.

Certain Nikkes have stats or skills that allows them to counter these features including Hit Rate.
